Social Networks, Expertise and Learning in Distributed Work
Research topics of the group are expertise, workplace learning, social networks, visualizations, networked learning environments, simulations and Web based learning.
The aims are
- to research expertise in its cognitive, social and contextual environment, and the way individual experts' activities are embedded in their knowledge base
- to provide explanations to the fact that developmental paths of experts are so different: why experience seems to nurture expertise only in some workers, while others are not developing along the years spent in working life
- to develop evaluation methods to assess expert actors, especially their socially shared relationships to other experts, i.e., to develop tools to trace interaction in the networked environments
- to define, describe and find information of the structures and practices of expert cultures and communities
- to trace what are the competencies needed in finding, managing and disseminating knowledge in a complex and dynamic working environment, and what characteristics should a learning environments include to be able to support in this process
Projects
- Vermeet ICT and Network-based Working Environment as a Challenge for Learning (funded by Tekes)
- SIG14 activities (Special Interest Group for EARLI: Learning and Professional Development)
